Why we liked it: the couple are skilfully framed in an object that reminds of their union and their love, the photographers has managed to capture their expressions and their gestures adding an additional and very personal point of view.

Alessandro, tell us about yourself and photography.

My travel in Asia was my first and true photographic experience. I’ve started to photograph almost two years ago, and at beginning it felt like playing. My approach to it was natural, genuine, immediate and without arrogance. My way, the one I’ve been following for the time being, is to learn more what it means “to become a photographer” than purely “to photograph”. I’m still young. Can you describe this photo?

I took this picturs in Hoi An, a small town in Vietnam. The boy and the girl were on the little boat (on the river) and I was on a bridge, above them. Before the snapshot I felt a little bit excited; I’ve founded the idea to “wedge” them in that sliding lock, but the problem was to capture the moment in one second, in one picture (because the ship flowed on a river). I think I was very lucky, in the end.

What are you trying to convey with your photography?

The more you look at pictures and the more meanings you can find in them. The initial idea was to “wedge” those love in those sliding lock; to convey an idea of stability and balance. With the post-production, with a right light, I’v created a hue, that goes from black to white, from down to top: this foto represents a wish for couples and the love you can find in couples.

Are you working on some other project at the moment?

Now I’m trying to realize a project, called “1,618”, because there will be 1618 portraits of people.
